Blog # 19: The Holocaust

The world is not dangerous because of those who do harm but because of those who look at it without doing anything”-Albert Einstein

How does this quote relate to the Holocaust? Think about the people that "do nothing."

  1. the quote relates because basically in the holocaust people just did nothing. They thought that they would wait for the war to be over but they were dead wrong. And if you agree with me that the video we saw today in L.A today; that the people in that video have sick and twisted thoughts and waht they are doing is completly wrong. Agree with me and ill count. thanks.

  2. This quote relates to the Holocaust because there were many people that didn't do anything. They just walked away from the horrible things that Hitler was doing. This quote describes the people that just walked away. Nothing was done about it and that was in some ways even worse than what Hitler and his people did because they weren't stopped. They just continued what they were doing and nobody helped because they didn't want to be in danger, even though millions of people were dying.

  3. I think because no one really did anything about Hitler killing people. Like no one stood up to him to just tell him ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! So it seems more problems are made when he feels that he can over power you and just take you down because he knows your too scared and weak to say something.

  4. This relates to the holocaust, because people there were tons of people that thought that Hitler was wrong to belittle and kill Jews and they just stood by and watched while it all happened.

  5. This quote relates to the Holocaust because people use to rate people on how they look and wht religion they are. No one cared about who u were they just cared on ur religion. If you were Jewish, you were killed. In another time period, if u were black u weren't treated fairly. You were treated differently and unfairly. That's like the Holocaust because people who were Jewish weren't treated fairly. They were treated different from everyone else just cause they had a different religion then all the others.

  6. This quote definitely relates to the Holocaust in many ways! What I think it means is that the people who do bad obviously cause damage, but the people who do nothing about it do just as much damage. In my opinion, if the people that just "did nothing" "did something" during the Holocaust, then it would have been a much lower amount of people dying, and it would probably span a shorter time period. For example, Person A does not lik Person B and wants to kill them. Person C knows about this. If Person C just keeps this information to themsleves, thenn Person B's hours are numbered. If Person C tells anyone, Person A will be stopped and Person B would be saved! If everyone just tryed to speak out and stop it, then the Hitler's men would not have been successful in killing as many people as they did!

  7. I do think of the holocaust when I hear that statement. If someone would have just tried to help these people that were in danger, then I'm sure a lot of less people would have been killed during that period of time. If you see someone getting beaten up or getting robbed, you should definitely help that person out. Everyone should ask themselves this if they see something like that...........

    'WHAT IF THAT WERE ME?"

You certainly wouldn't want that to happen to you. And if that did happen to you, I'm sure you would want someone to help you out, right? Plus, you would earn someone's gratitude and you would become a hero to them. Don't you wanna be able to call yourself a hero?

  8. This quote means that the world is not in danger because of the people who harm others (Hitler) but it harms more of the world when bistanders just sit there blank minded and do nothing about it. Nobody stood up to Hitler when he made everyone kill one another. they lived in fear of what was going to happen next. no one stood up against him in his crime!

  9. ummmmmmm I don't really understand the quote but I will give it a shot! I think the beginning of the quote..."the world is not dangerous because of those that do harm"....I think what that means is that people don't think the world is so dangerous because the are so use to it that to them it's normal. Now I don't understand the second part, but I will post again when I figure it out!!!!!

  10. This quote relates to the Holocaust because the people that stood around and did nothing didnt try to make a change on what was happenning.I bet if some of those people did do something to try to help maybe there wouldn't have been a Holocaust or maybe it wouldn't have lasted very long. They could of saved people's lives but instead they just sat around and watched people die. So, if you sit around and do nothing you might as well not care.

  12. I think this quote relates to the Holocaust because of all the countries that didn't do anything about it and for all the countries that did do something about it.
For example some of the middle eastern countries didn't really help out the allies in trying to stop the TRENCHANT acts by the Germans.

They just sat there like it wasn't their problem. It was almost as if they were saying here, that is your problem not mine, when really the acts of the Germans could have spread down to them.

  13. "The world is not dangerous because of those who harm, but because of those who look at it without doing anything."

I am going to use an example of everyday life to descrie this quote because I can't put it into words. Lets say that you see a group of kids at recess bullying someone. what do you do? DO you watch from a distance and pretend nothing is happening? No, at least I hope you wouldn't. I would try to stop the bullys and help the "victim". This is what the quote means. Don't just do nothing, act. In the bullying situation, if you do nothing, you could be next.

How does this quote relate to the holocaust? I have been trying to put my thoughts into words for about 10 minutes, but I honeslty can't say it. I just confuse myself. I guess i'll try one more time.

Ok, it relates to the holocaust because there were lots of people just standing around and watching the Jews get taken away and killed. Now, I'm not saying that one person coul have stopped the holocaust, but at least they could have helped other Jews escape. UGH! I keep confusing myself! Did any of you understand what that paragraph meant? Did you get the message there? Yeah, neither did I. I just can't explain what I'm thinking right now. But i just want to say this.
If it was me out there, I wouldn't be a bistander. i would help Jews get to a safe place. I would help as many as I could.
I hope all you guys out there understood that.

  14. The quote is saying that if you just do nothing and watch people get hurt you are doing harm.people who do nothing are not helping anybody,if you want to help do something about it.This relates to the Holocaust because hitler would just keep burning people just because they were Jewish, the people or the cops did nothing they were to worried about what hitler would do to them.

  15. I think that this quote relates to the Holocaust because the people that do nothing do much greater damage.
They let the people leading 'it' just carry on.
When you don't step in, the victim continues to be bullied. It doesn't just stop.
This is a lot like when Hitler was killing Jews, a lot of people just watched.

  16. I think this quote means that if people don't harm each other then the world wouldn't be dangerous. This relates to the holocaust because if everyone treated each other equally the world wouldn't be dangerous. people that do "do nothing" means people see other people getting hurt and not doing anything about it.

  17. This quote relates to the Holocaust beacause the quote is saying there is more harm by doing nothing then being the ones causing the harm. In the holocaust people could have tried to help keep people safe instead of letting the Nazi take the Jewish people.

  19. i think it is dicusting how people could just sit there and know this is going on and do nothing. The ppeople who are at fault for this is everybody in the world besides jermany. everybody could have helped. some of them chose to go with the nazi's some didnt. everybody can make excuses but there are none. its plain and simple we were to late. i m not saying this is our fault but we could have prevented it to some extant. i just hope that we can learn from our mistakes. tyver butler

Like Mrs. montrose said today they( the people who stood there a watched) Had no power over the nazi's or they lost it. Its pretty depressing to see just the people stick up for themselves and what they believe in. The people just let the nazi's roll right in to their country.
P.S.If this was today, I dont think America would get steam rolled

  33. I think that this also relates to our time by people learning about it and people never think that something like this may ever happen. If it did happen again it could cause a rucus like crazy insane madness. In the holocaust this would have meant that the nazis said they didn't no anything about concentration camps and they lied about killing the jews. Someone would of had to known

  34. I think that this quote has a lot to do with the Holocaust. While the Holocaust was continuing, everyone else was just lying around letting it happen. No one really did anything to stop it. 39. I think this quote means that the people that are not doing the harm are just allowing those that are to do so. The people doing the harm sure they're hurting people but when people just sit back and watch they are doing the same amount of harm as the "bad guys".Like when Hitler killed all the jewish the Christians just sat back and watched the horror. No one even said one word as simple as STOP!!!!!!! Although it might not have worked but at least they didn't just watch it happen. Imagine if it was you being killed and your friends did nothing to save you how would you feel. Some dangers need to be stopped and people need to start believing and have more confidence in their word, because even the smallest of humans can possibly change the way people look at their actions and say "WOW I really did harm to these people and it needs to stop.

It relates because people were standing by while Hitler was slaughtering people and no one did anything or said anything. O, and Kasey, why we didn't interject was because it was not our war and we were still preparing to go to war, we weren't prepared yet but we were rushed. Also, there's plenty of other reasons.

  48. the way that this quote relates to the holocaust was that alot of people knew what Hitler was doing to the Jews in the concentration camps.. but they chose not to do anything. Because individually they were weak against hitler, but if all those hundreds, even thousands of people, joined together, they could have over powered him. But none of them were brave enough to say anything. Because if some one said some thing or spoke out against hitler they could end up like the Jews.

  49. The way it relates to the quote is because the people that just stood there watching them get humiliated and beaten. People should stick up for other people because they are all the same except they just believe in different religions. That does not give anyone a right to pick on different people for religous reasons.

This relates to school also with popular and unpopular. The people that take phones out and start video taping, I would call them jerks. The people that try to break it up are very consiterite to others. The kids that pick on other kids are insicure about ~themselves~ that is why they have to pick on other kids.

And people do not want to be an outcast so they are going to try to be like everyone else or to fit in. Isn't that what everyone wants not to be differen't from everyone else. I am not saying that the decision was good because it was most definately not at all there were so many bad things they did but you can not change the past.
