Blog # 21: Disrespect

What are some common signs of disrespect that you see in people here at school? How do you feel about that? (It could be towards a teacher or classmate)

  1. Some common signs of disrespect are yelling at teachers. Classmates yell or make fun of other students. I feel like somebody should do something about kids yelling or making fun of students or teachers

  2. Common signs of disrespect are when people call out, talk when the teacher's talking, and when they dont listen. Or with other students it's ignoring them, rolling your eyes, have an attitude, makkeing fun of other people, etc. Well, i think everyone shuld treat others the way they want to be treated. I also tink they should listen to the teachers because they have interesting things to say and make lessons that try to help us understand things better.

  4. I think one way of seeing disrespect in school is being called something you don't want to be called. For example, everyone calls me Jdub; I'm COMPLETELY FINE with that nickname. Although I thought it was a little disrespectful when people called me Bubba Gump. I know it was on my t-shirt but I feel that when certain people said it, they meant it in a different way. But then there ar the people like Dan who make up funny remixes of bubba gump, I'm ok with that too. Like Bubble Yum(which I still don't get) and other ones that I'm okay with. Well that's what I feel.

  5. Some common signs of disrespect that I see in school is talking back to a teacher, or talking bad about a classmate. If a teacher asks you to do something you should do it without an argrument. If your classmate says something to protect themseleves or another you shouldn't talk bad about them. They are just trying to speak thier mind, and they shouldn't be judged upon that. I feel like everybody does this. It's something that you see commonly in a normal school day.

  6. Some common signs of disrespect in our school are talking or having side conversations with your friends when a teacher is talking. Not giving people/ or teachers your full attention. What I think because we are in 7th grade that we need to be more respectful. I mean i even have a problem with it especially with Mr.shultz. Like today, I kept having side conversations with a person and I didnt even think about it. He confronted me and im trying to get better at it. I feel that we should be more mature and cautious about when we talk and think before we speak so we can stop being disrespectful.

  7. I'm gonna start by saying what my mother thinks about this certain scenario. She says, and i quote
"The kids don't be quiet when the teachers are trying to make announcements and they don't respect each other in the lunch line. They push and shove and don't respect the cafeteria workers. Common courtesy people."
My mom is a lunch lady in our school, so she sees us all show disrespect towards each other. I agree with my mom when she sais that we don't be quiet when Ms. Abeyta and Mr. Carol are trying to talk to us on the microphone. I mean, come on people, give the teachers a break! Think of it in the teachers' point of view. Our 7th grade teachers, (like Mrs. Montrose), have to deal with 90 of us each day. They teach the same lesson 4 times a day, and all we do is talk to not show them nay respect. I don't know about you, but I would hate that if i were them. I would lose all patience.
So i think we should teach our teachers with the respect they deserve. RESPECT! :D

  8. When someone is disrespecting a teacher or a peer, they're usually saying smart remarks or giving dirty looks. To me this is completely unexceptable and should be taken care of, though disipline or an apology. When I see someone acting inapropriate like that I usually don't step in or just ignore it. But now after this blog I will think twice before I see someone saying or acting poorly towards someone, teacher or peer.

  10. One major sign I see is the infamous talking when the teacher is talking. Now don't get me wrong here people... I'm no teacher's pet . I have broken PLENTY of school rules myself. But still there is something called drawing the line. Talking in class or getting up six times to sharpen your pencil (while really whispering to someone on your way by) is not very respectful. And sad to say it happens a lot in this school. Take my science class for example.(7-1) Certain people are quite the trouble maker. Talking, passing notes, singing annoying songs(cough, cough,RJ,cough)and calling Mr. Schultz by his first name or going into Mr. Schultz’s sacred back room when you know it upsets him. I feel bad for the guy. If I am correct (and I usually am) this is his first year teaching. And certain people totally just wipe the floor with him. Remember back in September when he was all chill and stuff? Well now he has to be strict and yell b/c people take advantage of him. It's not right. Would we ever do that to, say, Ms. Cleavland ? Not unless you were smoking something. Or maybe Ms. Quimby? No. So why take advantage of Mr. Schultz. Now I am mainly chewing out MY science class, but I'm sure similar things happen elsewhere. Yeah,Yeah I know. I sound like a goody-goody, nerdy, teacher's pet with no life. But being "cool" is no excuse for being disrespectful.

P.S. Here is a powerful quote by Jackie Robinson: “I'm not concerned with your liking or disliking me... All I ask is that you respect me as a human being.”

  11. Some common signs of disrespect in our school are things like, talking back to teachers, not listening to your classmates, talking nonstop, not doing what you are told, things like that. When people do that it shows that they are not respectful towards others and it makes it seem as if they think they are better than everyone else. I feel that when people do these thing it is rude and that they aren't well behaved.

  12. Some signs of disrespect are talking back to your teachers and lying to teachers or students. Talking back is very rude but sometimes it just happens. Lying should never happen, you should always tell the truth if you really have respect for somebody. Overall, I think there is probably a lot of disrespect in our school and in America too.

  15. Alot of disrespect goes on in school these days. I think the most common one is toward teachers. The thing is that people are just trying to be funny but while they are doing that it is a huge disrespect to the teacher or grown up. If i disrespect a grown up at home my dad will fix that real fast... anyway there is a lot of disrespect....especially to mr.shultz

  16. The most common sign of disrespect I belive is talking back. Also, there is ignoring, rolling your eyes, etc. I feel that students should just learn that the teachers have authority over us and to listen to and respect them. THey also need to respect their peers. What if you were in the same situation? Think about that before disrespecting someone.

  17. Umm...well, some people in this grade disrespect teachers by not doing what there supposed to and talking back! And then some students direspect classmates by making rude comments, putting them down, thinking there better then them, making fun of them, and sooo much more. I think it's aweful to see teachers or other students disrespected in this grade.

  20. Well I really try to stay away from all the people that are disrespectful. To be the true there are some people in our grade that are really rude. I can't believe that I go to the same school as them sometimes. I really hate when people brag about the stupidest stuff. Some people in our grade are so spoiled they really don't give thanks for the things that they have and what they don't have. So ya I really hate when people do that but if you are defending yourself and you have to be like that with all means go rite ahead. You do need to have sas sometimes but some people in our grade don't know where to stop.

  21. Some common signs of disrespect in our school is disrespect towards teachers. Look kids, if you haven't noticed, teachers have more authority in school than we do. So, what is the point of back talking them and being rude? Girls and boys in school basically follow a "cool" rule. People think that to be cool, you HAVE to be bad. Being bad is not cool unless you like sitting in the principals office doing nothing. I recommend not being the ultimate SASSMASTER and cut your teachers some slack. They teach you pretty much everything you know.

There is also lack of respect from student to student. I'm sure people hate waking up in the morning dreading to go to school because people are ignorant and disrespectful. I feel that everyone should be treated kindly in school whether you like them or not. It's just the right thing to do. Personally, I love to go to school, but when I see ignorance and disrespect happening, it makes me want to rip my hair out. We all know the saying treat others how you want to be treated right? Well I'm sure EVERYONE wants to be treated with respect. So, why can't that happen? Trust me it would make things a whole lot better.

  22. Some common signs of disrespect I see at school are making fun of other classmates behind their backs, or right in front of their faces. Common disrespect towards teachers is different. Sometimes I see other people talking while the teacher is trying to explain something, and there are probably other things, too. I feel like this shouldn't happen a lot because it hurts other people, and everybody deserves respect.

  23. One common sign of disrespect is when someone tells you to do something, you don't do it. When you do that you are being disrespectful to the person who told you to do something. In school, when a teacher asks you to do something and you don't do it, thats a good example for what I am talking about. It also happens with friends when they ask you to do them a big favor and you don't.

  24. Some disrespects i see in school vary alot. It could be something as little as a look saying im better than you. or it could be a group of people ganging up and bullying a kid. if seen alot of disrespect. I can be acountable in many situations for these remarks. i think we do it to make ourselves feel better because we are insicure. or there is always the trying to impress the popular kids. i do'nt agree with any of the things that deal with this. I also think there is no way to stop it. Some say its a part of life but i wish it wasn't. tyver butler

  30. Most of you stated that disrespect is usually directed at a teacher or in class. Shouldn't teachers have to earn your respect first?

    ReplyDelete
  31. As far as my friend and collegue Mr. Shultz goes, why do you think students feel the need to disrespect him? Is it his age or is it something different?
What I don't understand is why cause trouble for a teacher who is truly on your side? It seems that you are biting the hand that feeds you.

  32. Some common signs of disrespect is when you make fun of another classmate behind there backs. You don't have any right to think you are better than someone else. Common teacher disrespect would be talking when he/she is trying to explain something or calling out an answer. Unfortunately this happens a lot but everyone deserves equal respect.

  35. Answering Mr.G's question...I don't think teachers have to earn your respect I think it should already be given. The teachers are like your parents at school. You give them as much respect as you would your parents. Your parents don't have to earn your respect so why should your teachers?

And answering Mr. Shultz's question....To answer I think I will use something I hear Mr. Shultz say alot..."you don't know your boundries"...some kids don't...although I don't see people "joke" with all the other teachers like they do with Mr. Shultz. So yes, I think age has to with it. I think this because Mr. Shultz is like 27 and that is much close to 12 and 13...then say Mrs. Montrose who is like 32 or something. So I think kids think Mr. Shultz has more of a chance to have "our genorations humor" and think it's funny....even though he doesn't think it is!!!! So if people haven't gotten it through their heads by now... they might want to.

    <3Jdub<3 AKA: Jordan W.

P.S.- I just used Mrs. Montrose as a random example....Just to put that out there!

Shultz because first, he is one of the younger teachers here and maybe because he was a student teacher or since he's new and kids feel they can just take over and act like he's just another student. Or maybe he is just a fun teacher to some people so they think he won't care when you say something that may be hurtful.

I commonly see kids talk while the teacher is talking, interrupt someone talking, raise their hand and just speak without being called, calling teacher by their first names, and all those things some people do that show the disrespect towards the teachers and their classmates. There are those things, and there's also what mr.carrol mentioned today talking about sexual harassment and he said himself, that that was disrespectful towards alot of people... not just the person that GOT harassed.
I dont like being disrespected and i cant imagine anyone else liking it. There are thousands of ways to describe being disrespectful and a thousand ways to do it, but overall, its just not right.

People talk while they're talking, some teachers are called by their first names, and kids pass notes and think they can do whatever they want in front of the teacher. It's just plain rude. The students also disrespect each other. For example they roll their eyes at each other and think they can make fun of them, and that's not right, because the people who are making fun of the kid would never want that to happen to themselves. People should learn how to respect one another. It would get rid of lots and lots of drama.

For a lot of students it’s just plain out ignoring the teacher, rolling there eyes, and just talking back sass to be cool. I feel every does this once in a while, some more than others. 52. Some signs of disrespect is when people like go and talk whole the teachers are talking it's rather rude and instead of saying sorry they just don't say anything. And when kids gang up on someone I mean when people do that it is just horrible to watch. It's something selfish people do like all think about is themselves. And rumors, is another sign of disrespect as if people already have to deal with everything else going on in school oh yea LETS JUST ADD A RUMOR! I mean definitely insecure people make rumors they are the worst even if they are about the stupidest things it's just one giant lie being spread as a truth.

  65. There are definatly signs of disrespect at the school. Some common ones are if a teacher is try to teach, and the students won't stop talking, they are showing alot of disrespect towards that teacher. It's quite similar if a teacher, or anyone, is talking and your not listening to them. Another common sign is if you call someone a mean name, or a teacher by his or her first name, you're showing ALOT of disrespect, like when some students call Mr. Shultz by his 1st name. I hate it when people show disrespect towards others. I think that person, or people, is really mean sometimes. It can really be hurtful to the person you're disrespecting, too.

Apparently they are only popular if you think they are, they arent.Everyone in this world is equal whether you beleive it or not, it will always be true! 71. I have seen many, many different signs of disrespect at our school. Like disrespect towards a teacher, like when the teacher turns her/his back on the class to write something on the chalkboard and a student that disrespects that teacher would make upleasent signs towards that teacher's back, or could turn around and mock that teacher to all of the student's friends. Or it could be disrespect towards a classmate, like calling he/she names behind their back. But then when that person hears about it and goes to confront them, they wont own up to what they have said.

I feel this is disrespectful and everyone is a person and should be treated with respect Students talk when teachers are speaking and call them names behind their backs. The students also pass notes and say mean things about the teachers behind their backs. Teachers are people also and should be treated with respect. They are only doing their job and trying to teach us. It's sad that some teachers have to be mean to get any respect.

  75. Well...... Like how everyone is saying how people disrespect Mr. Shultz, I do think they do that because Mr. Shultz is a relatively young guy and he jokes around all the time which makes people think that he will get our jokes to him (which I'm sure he does) because he still has that hip, young spirit left inside of him. And how people call jim by his first name, it's still disrespectful to cal him other names like S-Dog, Shultzinator, Elijah, etc. It's still not right. And if he asks you a question it's not right to say something random or rude in response so that you don't have to answer it. And if you were to describe him something like, skrony, weak, lopsided, etc. It's disrespectful and you shouldn't do it. And you shouldn't have side conversations while he is talking, especially about Justin Bieber.

  77. I agree with Adrian Jones. Students think that it's funny to talk back to the teacher. When you do it, the class may laugh, but you will make up for what you've done all alone. I just think that it's totally wrong to act like that. If your parents tell you not to talk back, then what makes it okay to talk back to a teacher? Teachers have the authority, like Danielle said. So next time you have something 'clever' to say back to your teacher, think about the outcome. Are you really doing yourself a favor? or are you just looking rude, disrespectful, and obnoxious?

Also I see people with no respect for themselves, and it hurts me when I see this because they are my friends and for them to put themselves down or say there not pretty is a straight up lie! So we all need to have a little R-E-S-P-C-T! For each other and ourselves.

  81. OH MY GOSH JORDAN I loved your post!!! It was so amazing great way to put it. I liked how you said sometimes one thing may not be disrespectful but then someone else says it in a way that is disrespectful. That made me think that sometimes you might not mean to be disrespectful you just said it in that kind of tone so they take it a certain way. I totally get what my parents were saying now! Great way to put it <3333 ya!

  82. I think everyone should no respect for others and not just adults but other students around you. Students should respect teachers and other adults because they do so much for you and other students.

  83. I think talking back to teachers is a major sign of disrespect. I think that is very disrespectful because how would you feel if you if teachers disrespected you. I would feel terrible. So think twice be for you disrespect someone.

  86. Some common ways of disrespect are when people do things behind a teachers back. I see this alot, when people get yelled at by a teacher, and then the teacher turns around and they make a gesture because they know that the teacher can not see or hear them. I think that it is very rude, and people should always respect a teacher.

  88. Disrespect is a very serious form of bullying and shouldn't be taking lightly. The common saying we hear when we are little is "Treat others the way you wanna be treated." This is going to be difficult for someone who doesn't understand the situation the other person is in. Teachers are diferent from that because they aren't kids and they don't joke around as much. Calling a teacher by their first name is considered wrond and I agree. If they aren't one of you friends then you shouldn't joke around with them.

  89. Great job everyone. I totally agree with Lydia and her mom's saying. The teacher that gets the most disrespect this year would probably be Mr. Shultz. Anyone that called Mr. Shultz be his first name, not cool! That is direspectful! Nobody should ever be disrespected, especially teachers.

  91. I think people disrespect the teachers because they think its funny and people will laugh. Sometimes (most of the time) people make fun of people because they feel low or feel insecure or that if they do one thing people will think they are funny and cool. Another thing is peopel dont know when to stop. They take it to far. People may say one thing as a joke but other people would take it seriously. I agree with Ty ~Grace Abrams~

  92. I just realized that my entry was really short compared to the amount I usually write. I decided to elaborate a little bit. If there is one teacher who is disrespected repeatedly, it would be Mr. Shultz. I honestly don't know why students would act that way toward their teachers, but they do. Mr. Shultz is a great teacher, and, just because he is young does not mean that he does not deserve respect! My class (period 4!!) used to be incredably disrespectful towards Mr Shultz, but now we don't. All people deserve respect, no matter how old they are!

Second I want to say thanks to Alexis,Bryant, Luke, and whoever else for recognizing me. Third I would like to say sorry to Bryant, Matt S., and R.J among others for picking on them. Sorry guys. 97. I think everyone has disrespected a teacher before either on purpose or accident. However this doesn't mean that it is right. Most common signs of disrespect are; back talking to a teacher or not raising your hand in class. On the other hand I think students disrespect each other more then teachers. You always see people roll their eyes at someone else or something along those lines and it's just not right. Either way both kinds of disrespect are wrong.

  100. Some signs of disrespect are not listening to a teacher, talking when someone else is talking, etc. Like in mr. Shultz class alot of people disrespect him. Like when people talk when he's in the middle of talking, calling him by his first name, and just getting up and walking around his classroom. It's really not right and no one should be doing this kind of stuff.

  101. Students disrespect teachers because they think they can get a laugh out of the other students but it's not funny it's just plain rude and obnoxious. Teachers don't go around disresecting you, do they? Think if you were in there shoes would you want that every day. There is also another time when disrepect happens, it is to girls in school. Some boys think sexual harassment is a game and it's funny. The girls might be laughing on the outside but on the inside it's not funny at all. Think if you were that girl how would you feel? Think about it would you like it, I'm sure I wouldn't, it's sick an wrong.

  103. Some signs of direspect is when people call out,or talk while the teacher is talking. Even kids will disrupt the class. Also when a student gets in trouble they talk back. If you get in trouble just face it, you caused it.

  104. I like Megan's post because it is entirely true. Many kids say that and dont realize how stupid they sound when they do. But many kids do disrespect the teachers and it just makes everything worse. Yes, to everyone who does this I enjoy being the farthest class behind in the studies were learning class. Who would, its a terrible felling when you know this. If everyone respected each other I believe class would go smoother, more relaxed, and all the stress would melt away.

  108. I think some signs of disrespect to other students is talking when they're answering a question and drowning out their voice. Another example of disrespect, to me, is my science class towards Mr.Shultz. Alot of people don't stop talking when he calls our attention and after awhile it just really starts to get annoying and frustrating because it's not like I can control what the class says and does. It's all of us together that create the problem.

And some times when people are being called somethings they don't want to be called at all.Like for example when Mr.Rudman is talking, other stadents are drawing around or talking with their friends. And also when stadents are walking on the hallway and talking while other classes are on.

  112. Common signs of disrespect I have seen in school are people talking back to teachers or giving them attitude. Which is not right at all! Giving teachers attitude is not going to get you anywhere other than detention or in trouble. I think the majority of kids who give teachers attitude were not taught the right way to respect adults. But i also think if you give teachers respect they should return it back to you, which some teachers do not do. But other signs of disrespect i have seen weren't only to teachers but to our peers and ourselves! One major thing i have seen and sadly have done is talk about people behind there backs. From personal experiences I have learned doing this gets you nowhere and hurts peoples feelings. From the experiences i have seen or done i have learned to have more respect to my peers and adults:):)

  113. I think people disrespect teachers at school like our science teacher. Students disrespect him like there is no tomorrow. They talk back to him and worst of all they call him by his first name. I used to call him by his first name a little until I relized how disrespectful it is. I now feel bad because I hate to be disrespectful to anyone (especially teachers).
